In the past, I have spent a lot of time talking about how to avoid putting weight on in the first place. This year I’m going to look at it from a different angle.
Let’s be honest, you’ve probably already resigned yourself to packing on a few kilos over Christmas (whether you’re conscious of it or not). So, if we already know that’s going to happen, then why not create a fool-proof plan to lose it straight afterwards?
No I’m not talking about yet another New Year’s resolution. I’m talking about a short term plan that will get you back on track.
Are you with me?
Great, so here is my secret.
Commit to something.
It might be signing up for a half marathon, a triathlon, or just a fun run (or a series of them). It might be booking an appointment with a personal trainer or a nutritionist. Or it may be signing up for an 8-week boot camp.
Whatever it is, what you commit to needs to have these 3 features:
- There is someone holding you accountable who doesn’t care about your excuses.
- There is a clear start/end date that will start with or without you. Preferably something that finishes no later than March.
- It’s something that is measurable, so at the end you can say you met your goals or not.
If it doesn’t have those 3 key features, odds are you won’t follow through.
Notice I never mentioned committing to losing weight. My experience tells me that if you focus on your challenge then the weight will just melt away on its own.
Comment below, what are you going to commit to?
